History:

MEC51-69 were the first batch of Citaro C2 ordered for London. They were new solely for route 358, and have remained on the route since.

Sadly, 4 of the batch have been written off. Three (MEC54, 56 and 60) were burned out following the Orpington garage fire in 2018. MEC51 was written off after colliding with an Enviro 200 in the Orpington bus crash in 2019.

In 2021 it was announced that route 358 will be receiving Irizar ie Trams, resulting in these MECs becoming redundant. As a result their future is unclear.
